A new fall/winter coat for under $20.00! Is it possible?
Of course it is! This year I really didn't feel like shopping around for a new coat...don't get me wrong, I love to shop, I could shop for hours, days actually...however there are a few things I don't particularly like shopping for, and coats is one of them. I mean my coat from last year still fits great so why do I need to get a new one? It's the exact style I want again for this year, a sleek, long, black coat.
I did decide it is time for a change but not a need to dish out my wallet for a new coat! So here's my solution...buttons! Yes, that's right, buttons. Changing the buttons on your coat will completely change the look and style of your coat. My coat had these dark grey, almost black buttons and they just were not doing it for me so I went bold with large shiny gold military buttons! They were only $1.00 each and I only needed 10 so it cost under $12.00 with taxes. I wore it for the first time yesterday and already got some compliments on my coat. I also added a gold bow that I had lying around, a previous purchase from Aldo's sale rack, only $5.00. So I basically got a new coat for under $20.00. You can purchase buttons online or in stores, if you live in the Vancouver area there is an awesome button store called "Buttons". You can mix and match, go with current styles or opt for vintage pieces.

Make a statement; choose items that reflect your personal style. Add any other item you want, like a broach on the right or left collar. Most importantly, just have fun and don't stop with just your coat, replace buttons on your other clothing, revamp your favorite sweater, go crazy! Below is a 'before' picture of my coat, a few close ups and an 'after' picture.
